AGA's newest report: 'Uncovering the U.S. Natural Gas Commercial Sector' examines the natural gas commercial sector and its many benefits to the U.S. economy. The report highlights the fact that clean, affordable natural gas has led to $76 billion in savings for American businesses since 2009 and that greater use of natural gas in the commercial sector provides an incredible opportunity to boost the profitability of America’s small businesses which could have a profound effect.
The direct use of natural gas continues to be the most affordable energy option for home heating and offers lower greenhouse gas emissions than other home energy sources. After an extraordinarily warm winter last year, even normal conditions would mean that residential customers this year would use more gas on average and therefore see slightly higher bills. AGA predicts consumers will experience a nine to eleven percent increase in overall heating bills this winter compared to the 2015-16 winte​

On average, residential natural gas bills may be 5 to 7 percent lower this winter compared to the pr​evious winter.Abundant supplies, reasonable temperatures and a moderate increase in total U.S. deman​d may result in residential natural gas bills lower compared to last year,” said Bruce McDowell, AGA​’s Managing  Director of Policy Analysis. “This winter, many Americans on average may see the second-lowest bills  they’ve seen in the past decade.” 
The average household winter heating fuel expenditures discussed in this STEO provide a broad guide to changes compared with last winter. However, fuel expenditures for individual households are highly dependent on the size and energy efficiency of individual homes and their heating equipment, thermostat settings, local weather conditions, and market size.
