Back-up Power

I Overview
Back-up power refers to a generator installed specifically to provide electricity in the event of a power failure. A back-up generator may be called a Stand-By Generator or Emergency Generator.

Most non-portable back-up generators today use natural gas-fueled engines to generate electricity. Natural gas systems eliminate the need for fuel storage.

II Applications
Back-up power generators are available in a wide range of sizes, usable from residential through the largest commercial application. These units are usually permanently installed inside or outside of the building that they serve.

III Equipment Options
Although electric generators used for primary power generation can also be used for back-up power, most back-up power systems are not designed to provide primary power in parallel with the electric grid.
