Overview:

Stand-By Generator or Emergency Generator are the terms most frequently used when talking about electric generators that are installed specifically to provide electricity in the event of a power failure.

Most back-up generators today use gasoline, diesel, or natural gas-fueled engines to generate electricity. Natural gas systems eliminate the need for fuel storage. Generators are available in all sizes from residential through the largest commercial application. These type of units are usually permanently installed inside or outside of the home or business.

Function:

The important thing to remember when shopping for a back-up generator is that you will want it to have ‘Black Start’ capability, meaning it will start up on its own after the power fails. You will also want it to have the necessary switchgear to allow it to send power to your home or building.
