| Natural
Resources Canada (NRCan) is a federal government department specializing in the
sustainable development and use of natural resources, energy, minerals and metals,
forests and earth sciences.
We
conduct leading-edge science and technology to provide Canadians
with ideas, knowledge and technologies. This helps Canadians use
their country's resources wisely, reduce costs, protect the environment
and create new products and services.
We
build and maintain a national knowledge infrastructure on Canada's
land and resources, so all Canadians can easily access the latest
economic, environmental and scientific information.
We
ensure that federal policies and regulations on issues such as the
environment, trade, the economy, Canadian land and science and technology
enhance the natural resources sector's contribution to the economy.
At the same time, we make sure these policies and regulations protect
the environment and the health and safety of Canadians.
Together
with international agencies and other nations, we promote Canada's
international interests. This helps Canada meet its commitments
related to natural resources, and keeps access open to global markets
for Canadian products, services and technology.
The
CANMET Energy Technology Branch (CETB) is one of the main research
and development arms of Natural Resources Canada. CETB develops
and delivers knowledge- and technology-based programs for the sustainable
production and use of Canada's energy supply.
CETB
works in partnership with other federal, provincial, territorial
and municipal government departments and agencies; industry; universities;
utilities; associations; and a wide variety of private sector companies
across Canada.
CETB's
technology development activities are performed on cost-shared basis
through either in-house R&D work at our laboratories or by providing
funding support to our technology partners. Our activities focus
on reducing the costs of existing technologies by performing applied
research or by undertaking more fundamental research where new technologies
and concepts offer significant future market potential. Deployment
and commercialization activities serve to increase market penetration
of proven, cost-effective technologies, through support for standards
development, technical workshops, training and full-scale implementation.
