Sales of steel mill products in dollars shows an even more cyclical pattern than shipments in tons. Sales have varied from $24 to $33 billion during the last ten year period, with positive growth occuring in the last two years. During the low periods in production, the industry experienced losses as high as $4 billion per year (in 1986 and 1992).
