Is Cogeneration "Right" for YOUR Facility?
This section of the DG Applications
Manual provides you with a simple process to screen your potential
savings from the installation of an on-site power system. With a simple
Q&A format, you will be asked for information about your process and
existing energy usage. Based on your answers and a few very basic calculations,
the Screener will suggest if you should contact one of our Members for
additional assistance in evaluating your DG potential.
In order to use the screener
you will need to know (or estimate):
- your average cost of electricity
- your average cost of natural
gas
- the average steam and/or
hot water usage of your facility
- your facility's peak electric
demand in kW
- your facility's average
electric demand in kW
To use the Screener as a 'what-if'
tool, simply run through Screener, answer questions differently and compare
the results.
Screen your facility
according to:
DG
Technology - If you already have a pretty good idea of what technology
would work best for your facility.
Thermal
Requirements - Screen which technology may work best for your thermal
requirements
Electrical
Requirements - Screen which technology may work best for your electrical
requirements
Utility
Cost and Savings Potential - Determine if your current utility costs
would support any kind of on-site power production
Power Quality/Reliability
If you have Power Quality and/or
Reliability problems with your electric service, you may be interested
in a DG system for reasons other than strictly running economics.
Do
you have Power Quality and/or Reliability problems?
Yes
Note: This Screener
is NOT applicable to Residential and small Commercial Applications.
