FuelCell Energy is developing its Direct FuelCell® (DFC®) for use in stationary applications. Our three main products—a 300 kW, a 1.5 MW and a 3 MW—are designed to meet a variety of applications. The 300 kW single stack DFC
power plant is a skid-mounted, compact unit, which can be used to add
incremental capacity or to gain operational familiarity with DFC power
plants. Ideal customers include light industrial, small buildings and
other applications requiring 250 kW to 1 MW of power.

Turbine Hybrid Installations and Press Releases FuelCell Energy's field trials are precursors to the DFC commercial market entry. Current field trials in operation or scheduled for 2001 include 250 kW DFC power plants at the University of Bielefeld and the Rhone Klinikum Hospital in Germany, at the headquarters of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, a 250 kW system in Japan for Marubeni and a 250 kW unit slated for the spring of 2001 at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Also slated for 2001 is a 3 kW DFC unit for the U.S. Coast Guard at the Cape Henry Lighthouse in Virginia to demonstrate fuel cell capabilities at remote sites. DANBURY, Conn., Apr 30, 2002 /PRNewswire/ -- Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) and FuelCell Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: FCEL) have formalized and expanded their agreement to distribute and develop ultra-low emission Direct FuelCell (DFC(R)) power generation products for industrial and commercial use. Under the ten-year alliance agreement, customers will now be able to buy these innovative systems from Caterpillar dealers in selected regions in North America. The agreement, signed April 26, 2002, strengthens the relationship FuelCell Energy and Caterpillar established in November 2001. It calls for the companies to jointly develop Caterpillar-branded power plants in the 250kW to 3MW size range, incorporating FuelCell Energy's fuel cell module. August 14, 2002, FuelCell Energy, Inc.,and its partner, PPL Energy Services, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation will install a 250 kilowatt Direct FuelCell® (DFC®) power plant at Ocean County College in Toms River, New Jersey. The power plant, which will run on natural gas, will be manufactured by FuelCell Energy in Connecticut and will be installed by PPL Energy Services.The total value of the project is $1.65 million. The New Jersey Clean Energy Fund will provide $827,000 in the form of grants.
