| Market
drivers
Industrial
refrigeration represents a large energy market that is now dominated by electricity.
An estimated 4 million tons of refrigeration are currently installed in the United
States in such applications as refrigerated warehouses and in food processing,
chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and plastics plants. Market opportunities for natural
gas are developing as users look to lower operating costs in an increasingly competitive
business environment and become more aware of the features and benefits of gas-based
refrigeration systems. Natural gas engine systems are now entering the market
from a variety of manufacturers and offering the user reduced operating expenses,
proven reliability, and an alternative energy management option.
Consortium program
This joint effort with
the American Gas Cooling Center is targeted to promote the broad acceptance of
standard engine-driven refrigeration systems being introduced by leading manufacturers
and designed to capitalize on the growing interest by users in food, chemical
and refrigerated warehouse industries to reduce refrigeration costs and increase
energy options. The consortium will support an aggressive market awareness campaign
that includes showcase demonstration units, training for equipment distributors
and gas industry sales reps, and development of marketing tools such as economic
screening and lead qualification software.

Case Studies
Four new Case Studies have
been completed by the Industrial Refrigeration Consortia highlighting successful
gas engine-driven refrigeration installations.
Gills Onion - is the nations
largest producer of fresh whole peeled, diced and pureed onions. Located just
north of Los Angeles, Gill was faced with raising electric costs and increasing
refrigeration needs with an expanding business. TecoFrost Chillers met their needs
and saved them a lot of money.
Aquamar - is a food processing
facility with large refrigeration needs. Energy costs are a major factor in their
profitability; see how engine-driven refrigeration has improved their operations.
Schwan's Super Rink - in
Blaine, MN is host to the USA CUP. With four Olympic-sized ice sheets, they are
one of the largest facilities in the USA. Learn how engine-driven refrigeration
units gives them one of the smallest equivalent energy costs in the USA.
Miller Brewery - in Irwindale,
CA is a typical brewery with a very unique chiller system. See how engine-driven
chillers help keep down the cost of keeping beer cold.
