More than 100 years ago, the City's forefathers came up with the idea of operating a gas company as a Trust, solely for the benefit of the residents of Marion County. This Trust created what is known today as Citizens Gas & Coke Utility. While times have changed, Citizens Gas still operates as a Trust -- the only Trust-directed utility in the country. The City of Indianapolis is the utility's trustee.

Citizens Gas & Coke Utility provides natural gas to the residents and businesses of Marion County, Indiana. Our customers pay rates that are approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
